The challenge
The challenge
Open source creates a distinctive go-to-market problem.
The product can spread through developers before a traditional buying process ever begins. Users, contributors, champions, and economic buyers may all be different people. Community is not just an acquisition channel, and make a great product is not a complete distribution strategy.
My role
My role
I created the OSS GTM Playbook as a practical, freely available resource for open-source and developer-tool companies.
It brings together frameworks, prompts, templates, and examples designed to help teams build a route from adoption to advocacy to sustainable revenue.
What it covers
What it covers
- Positioning an open-source product for the right early users
- Understanding the relationship between users, champions, contributors, and buyers
- Designing a product-led and community-aware growth motion
- Creating content and education that developers genuinely use
- Building a narrative that can serve community and commercial goals
- Moving from interest to adoption without treating users as leads
Why I made it
Why I made it
Developer audiences can spot borrowed B2B marketing language immediately. The strongest open-source go-to-market work respects technical users, creates genuine utility, and earns attention over time.
This playbook is my contribution to making that work more practical.
